A mesage from Coach Tim! Thank you for all you did this year for the Team!
PYTHON SPIRIT Lives on through these young warriors! Coming out of a win less, Covid haunted season riddled with frustrations, fallen comrades around them and looking for leadership through all the artillery fire and gun smoke. These young soldiers walked through the school halls dawning a different school’s colours, not knowing if they will have the support the brave young “soon to be men” before them received for 27 years prior.
Spring camp had a positive energy about if for the troops even with negative shots fired, but the 13 core battled on. Once the season hit in late summer the leadership had been transformed with an entirely new offense and defense implemented for these young minds to grasp!
Floating into muddy, bloody waters not knowing what awaits them when the gate opens to their first season as Jr. Vikings, did not deter these football loving beasts from storming the striped green battle field to a hard fought victory in their first game. All the hard work they had put in leading up to it, putting their losing ghosts behind them and hoping to conjure up new potions to keep this winning feeling alive is what they needed.
With all the obstacles they have already been through, there was still a long beach and a steep cliff they had to climb, with 2 games against the 2021 provincial champions. They dropped both games against the dreaded Hawks of AMS, losing 3 of their stronger players to injury to make the battle even harder. A loss to the tall powerhouse Brooks Roadrunners sandwiched in there the boys morale was low.
Hoping to turn it around, the troops boarded a charter bus and ventured to Raymond against the struggling Cardston Cougars. After falling down early the boys picked themselves up, dusted themselves off and battled back in a losing effort.
Finishing the season with back-to-back losses to the undefeated Roadrunners on the road, the 1 and 7 Jr. Vikings fought through adversity, with new leadership that lacked trust and had to get to know all the personnel as well as create a new identity.
These 13 young men, proud PYTHONS and exuberant Jr. Vikings hit hard, ran fast, made tackles, caught balls, scored touchdowns and worked hard and didn’t quit. These kids go through a spectrum of emotions during a football season, with anxiety of tackling their peers, meeting new kids from another school, developing relationships with older kids who watch out for them in the halls, learning to be leaders, experiencing the euphoria of a victory and the agony of a defeat. These boys watch out for each other, their Python Brethren, and their Jr. Vikings brothers. Watch for them next season for they should be hungry to challenge for the top.
